Types of Bets for Belmont Stakes
The three most basic betting types for the Belmont Stakes are win, place, and show. A win bet will pay the most, and a show bet will pay the least. When placing a show bet, you will win the show amount regardless of your horse finishing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
Win: Needs to finish 1st.
Place: Needs to finish in the top 2.
Show: needs to finish in the top 3.
You can also place all three of these bets at the same time, which is often referred to as Across the Board. A $2 ATB bet would cost $6.
The following bets get a little more complex, but you can make more money.
Exacta: Selecting the top 2 finishers.
Trifecta: Selecting the top 3 finishers.
Superfecta: Selecting the top 4 finishers.
Simply placing any of the previous bets straight up requires you to get the order correctly. However, you can box these bets, making it so your horses can finish in any order. But boxing does cost more. A 10-cent superfecta box costs $2.40.
There are other races throughout the day of the Belmont Stakes. You can place the following wagers on multiple races.
Daily Double: Picking 2 winners in a row.
Pick 3: Picking 3 winners in a row.
Pick 4: Picking 4 winners in a row.Pick 5: Picking 5 winners in a row.
Top Horses to Watch in the 2022 Belmont Stake
Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby but chose to sit out the Preakness Stakes. Therefore, we didn’t have a Triple Crown horse to cheer for on the second leg. So, no horse will be competing for the Triple Crown in the 2022 Belmont Stakes.
But there will be some familiar names that competed in the other two legs, starting with Rich Strike. He has only won two races in his career, but that includes the Run for the Roses. Sitting out the Preakness may pay off. His odds won’t be nearly as long as they were for the derby. With a long race, he will be able to have the same stalking approach.
Ethereal Road was the Kentucky Derby scratch that allowed Rich Strike to enter the race, but he is likely to be a standout in the Belmont. Trained by D. Wayne Lucas, this horse performed well on the Preakness undercard.
Creative Minister finished 3rd behind Early Voting and Epicenter in the Preakness, but he won’t have to face them in the Belmont. He doesn’t have much experience but has performed well in his few starts.
One of Todd Pletcher’s horses, Mo Donegal, drew the 1 post at the Kentucky Derby and managed to finish fifth. A better gate position may be the difference.
How to Watch the Belmont Stakes

The races leading up to the Belmont Stakes include the Woody Stephens Presented by Mohegan Sun, Resorts World Casino Manhattan, Ogden Phipps, Longines Just a Game, Jaipur, Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap, and Brooklyn Invitational. Horse racing betting sites do have live streaming, but since the Belmont Stakes is covered by NBC, it will not be available.
Final Tips for Betting on the Belmont Stakes
If you plan on betting on the Belmont Stakes, there are several tips to keep in mind. First off, use the bonuses. Take advantage of the offers that online racebooks offer for the big day. In fact, you can sign up for multiple racebooks from our page and use promos from each site.
Do some research prior to the race. Look at the field and see who has performed well. Especially being a longer race, many horses that have sat out since the Kentucky Derby tend to run great.
I always like to follow certain jockeys and trainers. Some do well in the spotlight and have a lot of experience. However, that didn’t seem to matter with Rich Strike in the Kentucky Derby.
Take the track conditions into account. If it is wet, see if any of the horses have run in muddy conditions. Stalkers are going to have a tougher time dealing with dirt from the leading horses.
And finally, wager responsibly and have fun!
